Global Geospace Science (GGS) Program and the Polar SatelliteThe Global Geospace Science (GGS) program's Polar satellite is reported on. The satellite aims to measure: the plasma flux in the polar magnetosphere and the geomagnetic tail; the plasma flux to and from the ionosphere, and the deposition of particle energy in the upper atmosphere. To accomplish these objectives, the satellite was placed on a 86 deg inclination, elliptical orbit whose apogee is located over the northern polar region. The spacecraft carries instruments for observing and measuring the magnetic field and charged particles as well as the imaging instruments.
