Comparison of CO2 Lidar Backscatter with Particle Size Distribution and GOES-7 Data in Hurricane JulietteBackscatter measurements using 9.1 and 10.6 micron continuous wave lidars were obtained along with particle size distributions in 1995 Hurricane Juliette at altitude approximately 11.7 km. Agreement between lidar backscatter and cloud particle size distribution was excellent. Measurements also correlated well with concurrent GOES-7 infrared images of cloud top height.
