Raman Spectroscopic Detection of Graphitic Carbon of Biogenic Parentage in an Ancient South African ChertThe detection of reduced carbon in martian rocks and soils is important in the search for evidence of life. A Raman spectroscopic study of South Africa chert reveals that 50 ppm carbon or less can be determined by this technique. Additional information is contained in the original extended abstract.
