Conceptual Design and Analysis of an MXER Tether Boost StationMomentum-exchange / electrodynamic reboost (MXER) tether systems show great promise for use in propellantless orbital transfer. Work conducted at MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center) and TUI (Tethers Unlimited, Inc.) over the last two years has updated and refined a tether conceptual design that could be used to boost payloads from LEO (Low Earth Orbit) to GTO (Geostationary Transfer Orbit) or on a trans-lunar trajectory. Efficient configurations have been created that can be packaged, assembled, deployed, and maintained, improving their operational potential and flexibility.
