Carbonate Globules in Columbia River Basalt The Search for Life in Terrestrial Subsurface Environments as Possible Martian AnalogsBasalts from the Columbia River (CRB) Plateau contain minor amounts of carbonates of unknown origins. We have examined the petrology and chemistry of the CRB carbonates to elucidate the modes of formation. This study is directly relevant to meteorites and future samples returned from Mars. Additional information is contained in the original extended abstract.
