Simultaneous X-Ray and Optical Timing Observations of GX 339-4The goal of this proposal is to perform the first comprehensive study of the correlated X-ray and optical variability of the Galactic accreting black hole candidate GX 339-4 using the X-ray and optical instruments on XMM-Newton. With these observations, we hope to make significant progress in understanding the coupled inflow - outflow system around a persistently accreting stellar mass black hole. The data is now all reduced. This includes the data analysis for all of the instruments on XMM-Newton, the EPIC - PN, the EPIC - MOS, the RGS, and the OM. We are currently preparing the results for publication.
