Comparison of Theoretical and Experimental Values for the Effective Heat of Ablation of Ammonium ChlorideThermodynamic properties of ammonium chloride have been obtained and applied to a theoretical analysis of the shielding mechanism which reduces the rate of heat transfer to a body when ablation takes place at the surface. The analysis has considered the mechanism as one in which the material sublimes directly from the solid to the vapor phase. The results of the computation are compared with the experimental results obtained from the Langley 700-kilowatt arc jet.
