Recent Results on Ultra-Luminous X-ray SourcesI will summarize what is known about the properties of the ultra-luminous x-ray sources with particular emphasis on their x-ray spectral and temporal properties, their radio counterparts and the environments in which they are located. These results are based on a large XMM survey of nearby galaxies VLA radio observations, recent XMM timing and spectral observations as well has HST and Gemini observations and a review of the literature. I will discuss how our present knowledge fits in with estimates of their mass and whether these objects are 'intermediate mass' black holes or stellar mass black holes in a very unusual state.
