GRAIL TCM-5 Go/No-Go: Developing Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) CriteriaThe Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission successfully completed mapping the Moon's gravity field to an unprecedented level for a better understanding of the internal structure and thermal evolution of the Moon. The mission success was critically dependent on the success of the Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI). In this paper we establish a set of LOI criteria to meet all the requirements and we use these criteria to establish Go/No-Go boundaries of the last, statistical Trajectory Correction Maneuvers (TCM-5s) for operations.
