Laminar flow control - Introduction and overviewA development history and a development-trends evaluation are presented for laminar flow controlled airfoil technologies and design concepts, including the search for 'natural' laminar flow and actively controlled flow via suction through small pores on the airfoil surface. While most NASA activities in this field have been concerned with subsonic aircraft, it has been projected that the control of boundary layer turbulence may be even more critical to the aerodynamic efficiency of supersonic aircraft. Developmental programs for these techniques have been conducted with several modified conventional aircraft.
