Nonlinear periodic wavesSystematic perturbation procedures for the analysis of nonlinear problems are reviewed. The cases when the multiplicity of an eigenvalue is finite or infinite are treated for self-sustained and forced oscillations. The possibility of the formation of shock waves is discussed. Applications to acoustic problems are presented.
