Eigenmode analysis of unsteady one-dimensional Euler equationsThe initial boundary value problem describing the evolution of unsteady linearized perturbations of a steady, uniform subsonic flow is analyzed. The eigenmodes and eigenfrequencies of the system are derived and several examples are presented to illustrate the effect of different boundary conditions on the exponential decay rate of the eigenmodes. The resultant implications for the stability and convergence rates of finite difference computations are discussed.
