Results of examination of the A-276 white and Z-306 black thermal control paint discs flown on LDEFMeasurements of optical properties and surface characterization of paint discs on selected tray clamps were carried out and are reported. Analysis shows the loss of organic binder for those specimens exposed to atomic oxygen. A visibly darkened layer up to 2 microns thick exists on the outer surfaces of specimens exposed only to solar radiation. Properties of ground control specimens and flight control specimens, as a function of spacecraft location are reported. Representative examples from a photomicrograph survey and SEM examination are shown.
