High-toughness graphite/epoxy composite material experimentThis LDEF experiment was designed to measure the effects of near-earth exposure on graphite/epoxy composites over a range of properties. All of the specimens were 8 plies thick, with one of two different cross-ply angles and with one of four different values of bonding fraction between plies. The mechanical properties of interest are toughness, strength, and elastic modulus. Six toughness specimens and nine strength/modulus specimens were manufactured and flown.
