On bilinearity of Manson-Coffin low-cycle-fatigue relationshipSome alloy systems, such as aluminum-lithium alloys and dual-phase steels, have been found to show a bilinear Manson-Coffin low-cycle-fatigue relationship. This paper shows that such bilinear behavior is related to the cyclic stress-strain curve. A bilinear cyclic stress-strain curve is a likely indication of a bilinear Manson-Coffin relationship. It is shown that materials other than aluminum-lithium alloys and dual-phase steels also may exhibit bilinear Manson-Coffin behavior. Implications for design are discussed.
