A Close-Up View of Io in the Infrared: NIMS Results from the Galileo Fly-BysWe report the initial results obtained by the Galileo Near-Infrared Mapping Spectrometer during the fly-bys of Io. Our data reveals, for the first time, the detailed thermal structure of hot spots and the local distribution of SO2 frost.
