ferrihydrite alteration to magnetite, maghemite and hematite; implications for iron oxides on marsSynthetic ferrihydrites have been altered to form magnetite, maghemite and hematite through low-temperature heating experiments (some with an organic reductant). Maghemite formed in this manner could become an indicator for Astrobiology on Mars.
