Ferrihydrite Alteration to Magnetite, Maghemite and Hematite; Implications for Iron Oxides on MarsSynthetic ferrihydrites have been altered to form magnetite, maghemite and hematite through low-temperature heating experiments (some with an organic reductant). Maghemite formed in this manner could become an indicator for Astrobiology on Mars.
