Study on Near Edge Impact Behavior of Sandwich Panels in Support of the SLS Payload Adaptor Fitting (PAF)This paper examines the effects of impacts near the edge of honeycomb sandwich panels compared to impacts at the center of the specimen. Instrumented impact data, NDE, cross-sectional photomicroscopy and Compression After Impact (CAI) testing were conducted. The key result is that for a given impact severity level, the CAI strength values are about the same regardless of how close the impact is to the edge of the panel.
